Risk Taker
Taking a risk is an essential part of progression. In order to succeed in new areas you need to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Closed mindedness is not an attribute of a risk taker. Having this one sided mindset usually doesn’t have any negative effects on you, but they are arguably comparable. The effects of taking risks can harm you, but with enough planning you can benefit yourself immensely.
I took a risk in September of 2018. In school my principal approached me, and asked if I’d like to host a school tour for some people. I had never done a school tour and I didn’t know who I’d be hosting, but I took the opportunity. After meeting with my principal, I later learned that I and a few of my peers would be hosting a tour made for the Superintendent of our school district, Dr. Keith Posley, as well as the United States Secretary of Education. This was the opportunity of a lifetime that I accepted, and it really helped me network. We were covered by the news, and I was even interviewed by a journalist from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Later on, I was nominated for the presidential scholars program, the nation's highest honor for high school students. The interesting thing about this, is that in order to be nominated, you need to be recommended by a state actor. Taking this chance, has greatly benefited me, and it was because I chose to be a risk taker.
